Lancashire Music Hub

Lancashire Music Hub is a network of people and organisations, working together to champion music education and make sure that all children and young people in the County get access to music making and learning that’s right for them.

It’s led by Lancashire Music Service, the County Councils music education service working with core partners More Music, a leading community music organisation based in Morecambe, and Charanga, award-winning developers of online music education resources.

Blackpool Music Service

Formed in 2002, Blackpool Music Service is a nationally respected, inclusive, and customer-led organisation providing weekly musical tuition in nearly all Blackpool schools, academies, and children’s centres. In 2025, Blackpool Music Service became a delivery partner of Lancashire Music Hub, continuing to expand, diversify, and collaborate with national and international music organisations. Known for its inclusive approach, it offers free instrumental loans, ensembles, choirs, and participation in all events, serving children from birth to 18 through programmes like Tiddly-Om-Pom-Poms and Wider Opportunities. Each year, its Creative Music Making Programme engages up to 20,000 pupils, providing workshops and performance opportunities with professional musicians from around the world. Guided by Strategic Steering Groups of adults and pupils, and supported by highly trained peripatetic staff, the service works closely with schools and the wider community to meet the musical needs of every child, fostering talent and inspiring lifelong musical engagement.

Blackburn with Darwen Music Provision

Music provision in Blackburn with Darwen is run by Bolton Music Service delivering on behalf of the Greater Manchester Music Hub across Blackburn with Darwen, to engage all sectors of the community to increase access to quality music-making, raise standards in schools and academies, and provide exciting musical pathways for children. Each week, around 8,000 children receive instrumental tuition, while over a third of local primary schools follow the music curriculum, supported by 45 weekly ensembles, bands, and choirs—including the T-Rock programme for young rock musicians. Many students progress to regional and national ensembles, such as the Halle Youth Orchestra, Greater Manchester Youth Brass Band, and the National Youth Choir, Brass Band, and Orchestra. The service is committed to meeting the needs of every child, providing specialist tuition that helps each reach their full potential.
