GETTING TO THE DUKES BY CAR

From the South: Leave the M6 motorway at junction 33 and take the A6 to Lancaster. Follow directions to the city centre and on joining the one way system, keep the in right-hand lane. You will see brown information signs for ‘Dukes Playhouse’.

From the North: Leave the M6 motorway at junction 34 and follow signs to Lancaster. On joining the one way system, keep in the left-hand lane and you will see brown information signs for ‘Dukes Playhouse’.

There is some on street parking available around the Dukes and many car parks are within walking distance. Two short stay car parks can be found if you turn right just past the Dukes.

GETTING TO THE DUKES BY BUS

Arriving at Lancaster bus station, head out of the main road entrance and turn right towards the Bobbin pub. Just before the pub turn right up Chapel Street and carry straight on until you reach the pedestrian crossing. Cross, turning right and then left onto Moor Lane. The Dukes is approximately 50 metres up on the left.

 

GETTING TO THE DUKES BY TRAIN

From the main ticket office at Lancaster station turn right. At the gates turn left onto Meeting House Lane. Proceed down the hill to the traffic lights. Cross the road onto the pedestrianised road through the town centre until you reach St Nicholas Arcade. Turn left as you reach St Nicholas Arcade and then right onto Church Street. Turn right up the hill onto Church Street to the pedestrian crossing. Cross the road and turn left onto Moor Lane. The Dukes is approximately 50 yards on the left-hand side.

GETTING TO THE DUKES BY BIKE

There is a bike rack on Moor Lane close to the entrance of the Dukes.

 

PHYSICAL ACCESS AT THE DUKES

The Dukes’ front entrance is accessed via 4 steps, followed by two further steps. These steps have a handrail on the right-hand side. To access our ramp, go down the cobbled alley to the left of the main entrance and then turn right.

Please ring the doorbell by the ramp and a member of staff will open the doors. A car park space can usually be reserved at the back of the building (access via St Anne’s Place) in advance for those who need access via the ramp. Please mention this when booking.

The whole of The Rake’s Front of House facilities, including the gallery, Box Office and accessible toilet, is on one level. The Rake theatre has one row of accessible seating on the front row, or chairs in this row can be removed to accommodate customers using wheelchairs.

Box Office is located directly in front of the main entrance.

There is a dropped kerb to the left and right of St Anne’s Place, giving access down the cobbled alley to the ramp mentioned above. There is also a dropped kerb outside the Round entrance.

 

FACILITIES FOR DEAF OR HARD OF HEARING PEOPLE

Infrared sound systems are available to amplify sound via a personal receiver. This can be used with or without a hearing aid. An induction loop system is also available at the box office and in the Gallery.

Hearing dogs are welcome and fresh drinking water is always available for them.
