LANDS is the name of an arts and sustainability working group programme seeded by Arts Lancashire.
An acronym for Lancashire Arts Network for Developing Sustainability, LANDS is a vital programme of climate action, engagement, advocacy and support for Lancashire artists and arts organisations. Its aim is to deliver Climate Justice by working together as a sector to address the unequal impact of the climate crisis and foster a sustainable creative community. We will do this by sharing knowledge and best practice across our local sector about making artistic practice more sustainable as part of a wider commitment to contribute to Lancashire’s net zero target.
LANDS is a member of:
Project Constellation Network facilitated by SAIL, a network of green arts networks across the country who come together quarterly to share learnings, successes, challenges, and to provide opportunities for collaboration on ideas, opportunities and funding for sustainable approaches to making art.
Lancashire Climate Action Network, a network of community-oriented organisations in Lancashire working on climate action to help mobilise Lancashire’s community voice and action on climate change, working collaboratively with others to advance the county’s climate agenda.
The Lancashire Arts Network for Developing Sustainablity (LANDS) officially launched at the Lancashire Arts Exchange on Wednesday 13 March 2024 at Horse + Bamboo in Rossendale during a day of presentations, panel discussions and workshops curated by LANDS on Climate Leadership, Action and Justice in the arts.

LANDS ASSEMBLY
9.30am – 4pmm | Wednesday 18 November 2026 | LICA, Lancaster University
Join LANDS for a day of ideas, conversation and collaboration exploring the role of creativity and the arts sector in responding to the climate crisis, what we can do and how we can do it. Bringing together artists, cultural organisations, researchers and communities, the LANDS Assembly will be a space to connect, share practice and imagine sustainable futures together.
This event is for you if you want to explore how to bring climate action ideas into your work with participants and communities in engaging ways as part of creative projects and events. You could be a freelance arts practitioner, or someone who works for an arts organisation as a practitioner or manager, or an artist or musician who wants to develop their skills and practice informed by climate action.
This event will include a screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing, which will provide inspiration and provocation for group discussions, collaboration and creativity inspired by the film’s messages. It will be a unique opportunity to discuss the film with arts practitioners from across Lancashire, develop new ideas and devise pledges for creative action to take into the future.
