Lancashire Arts Exchange 8th November 2018

Lancashire Arts Exchange

Thursday 8th November 2018

10am – 4pm

Challenge, Provoke, Subvert and Stimulate

Arts Lancashire invites you to the annual Arts Exchange event, for independent artists, producers, creative professionals, arts organisations and anyone who advocates for the importance of arts and cultural provision in our county.

This year we want to explore risk. The risks involved in making art happen in our context. What barriers do we face when making challenging and provoking work? In an environment of ongoing austerity, how does the current funding landscape impact on our approach to making work and the risks we feel able to take? How much has a culture of risk aversion taken hold and how do we begin to dismantle it? Where does the diversity and inclusion agenda sit within the debate and how can we create work that reaches our multiplicity of communities but can still offer challenge and stimulate debate around pervasive and divisive points of view.

Join us for a day of performances, debates and workshops as we collectively imagine a challenging, subverting, provoking and stimulating future for the arts in Lancashire.

Keynote Speakers: Dr Stephen Pritchard discusses artwashing, social capital, socially engaged art and anti-gentrification activism

Performances from: Horse + Bamboo and Burnley Youth Theatre with and option to attend – The Great Austerity Debate @ Whitworth Library From 7.30pm presented by Spot On Rural Touring.

Workshops: Rights, Risks and Reputations hosted by Super Slow Way & LeftCoast and supported by Index on Censorship, What Next? and Cause4. This workshop aims to ensure arts and cultural organisations and individual practitioners across the county have the tools to handle difficult subjects and sensitive stories to deliver the best work possible.

Tickets: £5 – which includes access to the whole day and a buffet lunch.
